Born here? You’re a citizen. Period.

On Wednesday, hundreds of protesters — including several MVF partners — rallied outside the U.S. Supreme Court as Justices heard oral arguments on birthright citizenship.

We Are CASA brought a huge crowd of members and supporters, stating on social media, “if you were born here, you belong here” and sharing a special message from their Executive Director on the Supreme Court steps.

ACLU of New Hampshire, which is part of the team arguing the case at the Supreme Court, was also out in full force, letting everyone know where they stand.

Trans Day of Visibility

Tuesday was Trans Day of Visibility, and MVF partners showed their support for our trans siblings — who are often the most vulnerable, especially trans immigrants and trans people of color.

What’s on the ballot?

Wisconsin: On Tuesday, April 7, Wisconsinites will cast their ballots in a critical state Supreme Court race that could have a major impact on issues like redistricting, abortion access, and workers’ rights. MVF partners are busy educating voters and getting out the vote in this nonpartisan race.

Maine: Maine Youth Power and Community Organizing Alliance hosted a gubernatorial forum where young Mainers asked gubernatorial candidates questions about immigration, SNAP benefits, ICE in Maine communities, and more. The event featured a youth emcee with more than 80 people in attendance and 300+ more tuning in virtually at watch parties around the state.

North Carolina: You Can Vote is hosting a series of virtual voter registration and “What’s on the Ballot” sessions to help North Carolina voters prepare to cast their ballots this year.

Organizing and Engagement Across the Country

Why the census is important! What to know about SNAP benefits! From ICE defense to election defense! MVF partners across the country are organizing and engaging communities to defend their rights and livelihoods.

Georgia: Georgia Muslim Voter Project is letting people know why the 2030 census is critical for determining how much funding communities get for essential programs, how electoral maps are drawn, and how we are each literally counted in this country. Educating voters about the 2030 census now will encourage greater participation in our civic process this year and for years to come.

Illinois: Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR) is sounding the alarm and educating Illinois residents that they may be at risk of losing their SNAP benefits. In both English and Spanish, ICIRR is providing information on possible changes and methods for people to receive support to ensure the continuation of their benefits, including a hotline.

Minnesota: Through their Monarca program, Unidos MN Education Fund has now trained more than 40,000 legal observers to monitor and report on ICE activities in Minnesota. They aren’t slowing down, offering additional legal observer trainings, and now election defense trainings as well, building power with Minnesotans to defend and protect their communities.
